Bengaluru: Congress leader and former MLA Dr Yathindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is all set to become Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in the ensuing biennial elections from the MLAs constituency. The high command nominated him after he vacated his Varuna Assembly seat in Mysuru district in 2023 for his father to contest.

Election will be held on June 13 and counting of votes will be taken up the same day. The filing of nominations ended on Monday.
Yathindra represented the Varuna Assembly seat from 2018-23, earlier represented by his father Siddaramaiah twice.
However, there was opposition to fielding Yathindra for the MLC polls by party general secretaries. Vijay Mulgund, V. Shankar, B.R. Naidu, S. Manohar, Kenchegowda, M. Ramachandrappa and others urged party high command to field at least three fresh faces.
The polls are being held for 11 seats and the Congress can win seven considering its strength of 136 members in the 224-member Assembly.
Along with Yathindra, the Congress has nominated minister N.S. Boseraju, K. Govindaraju, Ivan D’Souza, Bilkis Bano, Jagdev Guttedar and Vasanth Kumar.
The BJP can win three seats and it has fielded former minister C.T. Ravi, MLC N. Ravikumar and former MLA M.G. Muley. Javarayi Gowda is the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) candidate. He has lost his last four contests from the Yeshwanthpur Assembly seat in Bengaluru, but was rewarded for loyalty to the party.
