BENGALURU: To allow employees in the districts of Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura and Belagavi in Karnataka to exercise their rights in the Maharashtra Assembly polls scheduled on November 20, the State Government on Friday stated all eligible voters having rights in Maharashtra will get a paid holiday on that day.

Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura and Belagavi share with Maharashtra. The decision to declare paid holiday has been taken under Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 and also under Representation of People’s Act, 1951 after taking into consideration that many eligible voters working, both permanent and contract/ daily wage, settled in the four districts of Karnataka and have their voting rights in Maharashtra.

A statement stated all eligible voters belonging to State Government employees, persons working in aided schools and colleges, nationalized banks, insurance companies, financial institutions and other business, trade, industrial undertakings or any other establishment will get a paid holiday. The statement directed all institution heads/authorized persons to grant paid leave on November 20 to all eligible voters to cast their votes.
