Karnataka Govt Approves 25 Percent Stipend Hike for Resident Doctors and PG Medical Students

MANGALURU: The Karnataka Medical Education Department has issued an order approving 25 percent increase in the stipend of senior resident doctors and PG medical students.

Following a call for strike by resident doctors, Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil intervened and held discussion with the officials of his department and directed them to pass an order hiking the stipend. The revised stipend would be applicable from August 1.

The total number of sanctioned seats is 4,312, which includes 3,540 for PG courses, 445 for super-specialty programs, and 527 for senior resident positions.

Revised stipend:

PG Resident Doctors:

Courses Monthly stipend

1st year - Rs 45000 to 56250

2nd year - Rs 50000 to 62500

3rd year - Rs 55000 to 68750

Super speciality resident doctors:

courses - monthly stipend

1st year - Rs 55000 to 68750

2nd year - Rs 60000 to 75000

3rd year - Rs 65000 to 81250

senior residents - 60000 to 75000
