Hosapete: Ballari Lok Sabha MP E Tukaram has urged the launch of an expert-led survey aimed at boosting agriculture in Vijayanagara district. During a review meeting on Tuesday, Tukaram instructed officials from the Agriculture, Horticulture, and Sericulture departments to conduct a detailed survey across the taluks of Hosapete, Kudligi, Kottur, Huvinahadagali, Hagaribommanahalli, and Harapanahalli. He emphasized the need for immediate action, based on expert recommendations, to significantly improve agricultural productivity in the region.
"The district grows a variety of crops across different areas. It is crucial for farmers to adopt scientific farming techniques and choose crops suitable for the soil quality," Tukaram said. He called for the development of a master plan to promote crops like silk, tamarind, and grapes. A comprehensive study of the soil types in each taluk will be conducted to determine the most appropriate crops for each area. Tukaram also highlighted the need to collaborate with legislators to create new guidelines that will help farmers maximize their profits through optimal crop selection.
In addition to agricultural initiatives, the MP addressed healthcare concerns, instructing the District Health and Family Welfare Department to provide a detailed taluk-wise breakdown of population and hospital data. He stressed the importance of improving medical infrastructure, including the provision of ambulances and scanning machines at health centers.
Tukaram also urged officials from the Women and Child Development Department to focus on reducing child malnutrition in the district. He emphasized the need for high-quality food and timely medical treatment to ensure the number of malnourished children reaches zero.
