Mangaluru: The BJP Yuva Morcha has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the police, demanding the immediate registration of an FIR against MLC Ivan D'Souza.

The Yuva Morcha had previously filed a complaint at the Barke police station, claiming that D’Souza’s speech incited violence. The Morcha initially set a 48-hour deadline for the police to act, threatening to stage a protest at the station if no action was taken. As of Wednesday afternoon, no FIR had been registered, leading to renewed pressure from the Morcha.
The Yuva Morcha announced plans to stage a protest at the station in the evening. Shortly after the scheduled time leaders arrived at the station. Instead of proceeding with the protest, they chose to engage in further discussions with the police. The delegation then went inside the station and held talks with ACP Pratap Singh Thorat.
Yuva Morcha district president Nandan Mallya stated that it has been 48 hours since the complaint was filed against Ivan D'Souza, yet no FIR has been registered despite the police's verbal acknowledgment. He alleged that D'Souza's provocative speech led to incidents like stone-pelting during the Congress protest and those involved were merely released on station grounds without further action. Mallya stressed that this sends the wrong message, implying that no action will be taken against those responsible for such disruptive incidents. He demanded an immediate FIR against Ivan D'Souza.
In response, ACP Pratap Singh Thorat mentioned that legal advice is required before filing the case.
The Yuva Morcha leaders, however, issued an ultimatum, stating that they would give another 24 hours for the FIR to be registered before escalating their protest.
