Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting on August 22 following Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to grant permission for his prosecution in connection with an alleged site allotment scam involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the meeting will take place at the Vidhana Soudha Conference Hall. The agenda will focus on the developments related to the MUDA case.

Sources in the CM’s office said that Siddaramaiah will brief Congress legislators on the facts of the case and outline a strategy to address the issue both legally and politically. Governor Gehlot’s approval to prosecute Siddaramaiah came in response to complaints filed by three private individuals.

The allegations center around the allocation of compensatory sites by MUDA to Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, in a prime area of Mysuru. The sites reportedly have a higher property value compared to her original land, that MUDA had acquired.

Under the scheme in question, MUDA allotted 14 sites to Parvathi in exchange for 3 acres and 16 guntas of her land, where the authority developed a residential layout. The scheme, which allows for a 50:50 ratio of developed land in exchange for undeveloped land, has sparked controversy.

BJP leaders have claimed that the alleged scam could involve amounts ranging from Rs 4,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore. In response to the allegations, the Congress government on July 14 established a single-member inquiry commission, led by former High Court Judge Justice P. N. Desai, to investigate the claims.Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied any wrongdoing in the matter.
