Mangaluru: A person was found dead in police lockup at the Brahmavar Police Station in Udupi district early Sunday morning.

According to Udupi District Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K, on Saturday evening, the Brahmavara police received a complaint about a person allegedly harassing a woman and children in Cherkady.

Officers arrived at the spot, detained the individual, and brought him to the station. The complainant who came to the station filed an official complaint stating that the individual had entered their home and allegedly harassed them.

The person, later identified as Biju Mohan, was held in the lockup overnight.

At around 3.45 am, the sentry noticed the individual collapsed, sitting with his head against the wall. The sentry immediately informed the sub-inspector and called for an ambulance. The man was taken to the Brahmavara Community Health Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

“The person has been identified as Biju Mohan (45), a native of Kollam in Kerala, who was working as a coolie. We have informed his family members. Since this is an in-custody death, the CID will conduct an investigation,” the SP stated.

Further action will be taken based on the complaint filed by the family members.
