Udupi: 21-yr-old woman raped by Instagram acquaintance

Udupi: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Friday by a man whom she had met on Instagram three months ago. The incident occurred in the Karkala Town Police Station limits on Friday.
“The accused, identified as Altaf (34), has known the victim through Instagram for three months. The victim stated that Altaf had invited her to meet him on Friday afternoon. When she arrived, she was kidnapped and forcibly taken in a vehicle to a place. Two of Altaf's friends came to that place and handed over a beer bottle to him. The victim said that Altaf mixed an unknown substance into the drinks and raped her,” Udupi SP Dr Arun K said.
A case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 138 (Abduction), Section 64 (Rape), and Section 3(5). Altaf has been arrested, and the vehicle used in the crime has been seized.

Investigations revealed that following the assault, Altaf dropped the victim at her home.
She is now admitted to a private hospital in Manipal for medical treatment. Further legal action is being pursued.
