Udupi Crash: Prajwal Shetty Accused in Hit-and-Run Case

Udupi: Prajwal, son of Congress leader Devi Prasad Shetty from Belapu village, has been accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 39-year-old motorcyclist, Mohammad Hussain.

According to police, the incident occurred on November 13 at around 5 AM near Mariya Bakery on the Punchalakatte-Belapu road, about 20 km from Udupi. Hussain was riding his motorcycle (KA20EJ8368) when a vehicle driven recklessly, collided with him. The driver fled the scene without offering assistance or informing authorities.

Hussain sustained severe injuries to his legs, arms, and head. He was initially taken to the Government Hospital at Ajjarkad in Udupi and later shifted to KMC Hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on November 14 at 7.30 pm.

A case has been registered under BNS Section 281 (rash and negligent driving) and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 125(b) (causing grievous hurt by endangering life or safety) and Section 134(a&b) (failure to render assistance).

The Shirva Police launched an investigation and identified the vehicle involved in the accident. They found it to be a Mahindra Thar jeep (KA02AJ0333) owned by Prajwal, son of local Congress leader Devi Prasad Shetty.

Prajwal was apprehended along with the jeep and released on station bail. The police officials also found the CCTV footage of the incident. It is not very clear as the incident occured in the dark. However it shows a bike being hit by a speeding vehicle.

Police have assured that the investigation will be completed promptly, and a chargesheet will be filed against the accused.
