The Kerala government suspended two IAS officers for creating a WhatsApp group exclusively and for making derogatory comments.

The Kerala government suspended two senior IAS officers on Monday, November 11, for disciplinary violations. K. Gopalakrishnan, the director of industries and commerce, was suspended for creating a WhatsApp group exclusively for Hindu IAS officers in Kerala. Prasanth N., special secretary in the agriculture department, faced suspension for making derogatory remarks about additional chief secretary A. Jayathilak.

Gopalakrishnan had allegedly formed the WhatsApp group, "Mallu Hindu Officers," on October 31, sparking controversy when some members objected to its religiously exclusive nature. Gopalakrishnan initially claimed his phone was hacked, but a cyber forensics investigation could not confirm the hacking due to the device being formatted.

Prasanth, on the other hand, faced action after making personal, insulting comments about Jayathilak on social media. He accused Jayathilak of ruining the careers of subordinates who did not follow his orders and called him mentally ill. The remarks followed a report by Jayathilak regarding the Unnathi initiative, which is focused on welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Recently, reports emerged that files related to the Unnathi initiative had gone missing, and Jayathilak had informed the Chief Minister that the project’s progress had stalled due to this issue.
