Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the 2024 Lok Sabha verdict was a major setback to BJP's attempts to subvert democracy and constitutional values.

Pinarayi said the election results indicated that the people have rejected all the propaganda campaigns with the support of a large section of the media, the administrative machinery, central agencies and money power.

The people of India have smashed the BJP’s illusion that it can move forward by dividing the people on communal and sectarian lines,” he said.

The chief minister admitted that the results in Kerala were not on the expected lines. It was a repeat of 2019 elections. “We will examine the verdict in detail and make necessary corrections. The government will implement the development programmes more effectively,” he said.

Pinarayi said BJP’s win in Thrissur Lok Sabha seat is being viewed seriously. Its BJP’s first win in a state like Kerala which is known as a model of secularism and democracy, needs to be evaluated critically by all secular and democratic forces.
