Malappuram: Nearly 300 residents were evacuated from the Anakkallu area in Kerala’s Malappuram: Nearly 300 residents were evacuated from the Anakkallu area in Kerala’s Malappuram district after hearing “explosion-like” sounds and experiencing mild tremors. The first sound was reported around 9:15 PM on Tuesday, followed by two more at 10:15 PM and 10:45 PM, causing panic within a two-kilometer radius.

In total, 287 people from 85 families were relocated to a local school late Tuesday night. Residents described the noises as similar to those from granite quarries and reported cracks in some homes. One woman shared her fear, stating they ran out of their houses as the sounds continued.

An elderly man mentioned similar noises had been heard over the past ten days. Local panchayat member Omana received calls from residents during the incident and confirmed cracks in two homes. After another alarming sound was heard, she coordinated the evacuation to the school camp.

Police and local officials arrived to provide assistance, and families began returning home on Wednesday morning after the situation was assessed.
