Kerala CM awards Rs 2 crore to former Indian goalkeeper

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government hosted a public reception for former Indian goalkeeper and Olympic bronze medallist P R Sreejesh in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan awarded Sreejesh a cash prize of Rs 2 crore at the reception held at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium. Earlier, he taken out in a procession in an open jeep from Manaveeyam Veethi to the stadium for the ceremony.

A large number sportspersons, students and people from different walks of life cheered Sreejesh along the stretch.

Sreejesh, hailing from Ernakulam, played a major role in securing the Indian hockey team's second consecutive Olympic bronze. The government also honoured four athletes who represented India at the Paris Olympics, including Muhammad Anas, H S Prannoy, Muhammad Ajmal, and Abdula, as well as athletics chief coach P Radhakrishnan Nair.
