New RoR Act will End all Dharani Woes: Ponguleti
Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that the long-standing issues surrounding the Dharani portal, which had caused considerable hardships to the people during the previous BRS government, will all be put to an end soon.
He said that the new RoR Act, 2024 (Record of Rights) being brought by the Congress government will bring relief to people from all Dharani-related woes.
Reddy was speaking at a consultative meeting on Draft RoR Bill, 2024, organised by the Telangana Revenue Employees Services Association (TRESA), here on Monday.
He said that the new Revenue Act will emerge as the country’s model as it will liberate farmers from land-related complications.
"The Dharani portal will be passé. Introduced in a hurried manner by the BRS government, it had added to the difficulties of the people," he said.
In stark contrast, the new Act will be in line with the government’s vision of establishing a prosperous Indiramma Rajyam.
Reflecting on the shortcomings of the Revenue Act 2020, the minister noted that "laws, when not properly thought out, lead to disastrous consequences."
He added that the new law would address the needs of the future generations. Towards this, the state government was involving all sections of society, from the common man to the intellectuals, in the drafting process. "Every reform must be built on solid foundations so that it can withstand the test of time. It has to continue benefiting people, into the future generations," he said.
He criticised the BRS government for abruptly abolishing the VRO (village revenue officer) and VAO (village administrative officer) system, which left the revenue administration at the village level in disarray. The Congress government would reinstate a functional revenue system, including revenue courts at the village level.
On resolving the concerns of revenue employees, he assured them of convening a meeting with revenue unions to find solutions to their problems, stressing that collective efforts are necessary for the government's success.
"Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had promised to dissolve Dharani portal if the Congress is elected to power. The people of Telangana placed their trust in us, and we will honour that promise by delivering a permanent solution to land issues," the minister said.
The new Revenue Act will be a benchmark in managing land and revenue issues in a way that it benefits both farmers and the general public, he said.
