Hyderabad: Several months have passed since the new state government was sworn in, yet over 60 employees working in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Boad (HMWSS&B), whose services were extended by the BRS government after their retirement, are clinging to their posts.

The services of the 110 retired officials were extended on the recommendations of former chief secretary Somesh Kumar and former Municipal Administration and Urban Development (Maud) special chief secretary Arvind Kumar.

Though the services of over 50 such officials have already been terminated by GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose, about 60 more retired employees are holding on to their posts.

Those whose services were extended include HMDA employee Sridhar Gupta, who is over 80 years old, and oversees works related to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Recently, the services of P. Anuradha, who takes care of the command control room in the GHMC, and Raj Kumar, who works in the Mayor's office have been extended by the commissioner. However, a file related to service extension of Vijay Krishna, an officer on special duty (OSD) to Mayor, has been sent to the state government for approval.

Similarly, HMWS&SB executive director M. Satyanarayana, who got multiple extensions after retirement, is also holding on to his post.

With elections coming to an end, a major reshuffle is on cards in the GHMC. The commissioner has already ordered the additional commissioner to prepare a list of officials who are serving in the same post and in the same wing for over three years.

“Through this reshuffle, the commissioner wants to end irregularities. It’s not the only senior officers who have lobbied for their extension of services. For instance, during the BRS regime, the former MA&UD Minister’s office recommended extending the services of a driver named Pandu working in the transport wing of the corporation,” the GHMC official said.

He further said that even when computer operators or sanitation supervisors were transferred during the BRS regime, they used to get all orders from the peshi of the Maud minister.
