Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated the renovated and beautified Anna flyover in Chennai on Friday, more than 50 years after the landmark was planned and constructed during the tenure of M Karunanidhi as Chief Minister as the third such major facility in the country meant for easing traffic congestion.

Though Karunanidhi’s later stints saw a plethora of flyovers being constructed all over the State with an eye on helping motorists, Anna flyover was a historic facility that was declared open for traffic on July 1, 1973.
The renovation and beautification with colourful lights and other aesthetic paraphernalia was carried out at a cost of Rs 10.85 crore with the State government chipping in Rs 8.55 crore and DMK’s Thousand Lights MLA, N Ezhilan, contributing Rs 2 crore from his constituency development fund.
