Chennai: The Villupuram district police granted permission to the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, the nascent political party launched by actor Vijay, to hold its maiden conference at Vikravandi with 33 conditions but it is not clear if the high wattage political rendezvous would go on as per the earlier schedule, on September 23.

The day after the party received the necessary approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the party’s flag and name, the honchos called on the Villupuram superintendent of police on Monday and clarified the 22 questions raised on the various arrangements for the conference.

Though satisfied by the reply to the questions, the police raised a few more doubts in the form of ancillaries to the earlier questions, increasing the total number of points of compliance that the organizers of the mega event should have to look out for to 33.

The party leaders came back with the permission and are said to have handed over the order to Vijay, who has not given them the final date of the event. Since the party has two full weeks to carry out the necessary work on the sprawling ground that they are taking for rent in Vikravandi, the possible delay is intriguing.

Among the 33 conditions laid down by the police for the conference, there are few that address possible traffic snarls that the event might cause on the busy national highway that runs close to the venue. Which means that parking of vehicles anywhere on the highway or other roads would be totally banned.

Whether the organizers would be able to ensure that no such violation of the norms happens and the crowd strength does not exceed the number that they had given to the police to get permission are not clear. Anyway, Vijay will decide on the date.
