DMK Holds Protests Against Governor R N Ravi
Chennai: The DMK organized protests in all the district headquarters in the State to protest against the behavior of Governor R N Ravi who refused to read out the Governor’s Address in the State Assembly and walked out of the House accusing the DMK of insulting the national anthem.
Speaking at the protest in Chennai, DMK MP from Thoothukudi, Kanimozhi said Ravi was behaving in such a manner for the third time, belittling the sentiments of the Tamil people. She said the DMK and its leaders knew what patriotism was and need not have to take lessons from someone like Ravi.
The Governor was just a rubber stamp who need not have taken such strong political stands and if he tried to continue in the same fashion, he would be chased away from the State, she said.
The DMK had also put out wall posters asking the Governor to ‘Get Out,’ raising a storm in the BJP camp with its leaders alleging that no action was taken against it. BJP State President, K Annamalai, told the media that it was illegal to come up with such posters but the DMK government had turned a blind eye to it.
He alleged that the other political parties in the State were not given permission to organize protests, adding that even the DMK’s allies faced the same problem. But the DMK workers were free to hold any agitation anywhere, anytime, he said.
Annamalai also said that the DMK top brass failed to explain to the people protesting against the tungsten mining project that it had been scrapped and they need not worry about it. The protest near Madurai against the tungsten project saw a large number of people gathering at the venue and raising slogans against the feared loss of livelihood.
