Chennai: Reacting for the first time to the fusillade of attacks on Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) founder, Periyar E V Ramasamy, by Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman, in recent times, Chief Minister M K Stalin, said that he was did not have any respect for anyone denigrating Periyar, who was their leader and leader of all leaders.
Speaking to the media after reviewing the ongoing work on the North Chennai Development Plan, Stalin said that he had not taken seriously anything spoken against Periyar and hence would not like to blow it up. Though many other leaders had reacted to Seeman’s consistent diatribe, Stalin was speaking on it only now.
To another question on Governor R N Ravi hurling allegations against the State government through statements and social media messages, Stalin said that it was good for the DMK that he was expressing his opposition to the government on anything and everything
His aggressive opposition to the government had motivated not only the DMK but also the people to face it and stand by the government, Stalin said. The Governor’s action had only added to the significance of the government and hence he would urge Ravi to continue with his onslaughts, he said.
To a specific question on the Governor unilaterally appointing a search committee to identify vice chancellor candidates for Madurai Kamaraj University by ignoring the panel nominated by the government, the Chief Minister said he had been repeatedly doing it and the State government had approached the court for remedy.
Replying to the allegation by the opposition parties that law and order in the State had deteriorated, he said some random incidents happening here and there were being blown out of proportion to create the impression, while there was nothing wrong with the law and order situation that was only drawing investments to the State from other States and countries.
Stalin recalled the developmental work carried out in North Chennai when he was the Mayor of the city and said that work on the rainwater drainage system was undertaken and 10 over bridges were constructed to ease traffic flow.
Now that the DMK had come to power again, several projects had been started with the help of various departments and work had started for 252 schemes worth Rs 6309 crore, of which 29 schemes had been completed, he said, adding that in the next two years the rest of the work would be completed.
In another year, north Chennai would become a developed Chennai and that work that he reviewed on Friday were related to realization of that goal, he said. Apart from reviewing five schemes worth Rs 474.69 crore, for which work was on, Stalin also laid the foundation for new schemes worth Rs 59.15 crore at Kannigapuram.
