Projects amounting to Rs 1.47 lakh cr completed under Smart Cities Mission
Chennai: Around 91 per cent of the projects accounting for Rs 1.47 lakh crore under the Smart Cities Mission have been completed. The central government has released Rs 47,225 crore to states and union territories under the mission.
As on November 15, 2024, under SCM, work orders have been issued in 8,066 projects amounting to Rs 1,64,669 crore, of which 7,352 projects amounting to Rs 1,47,366 crore or 91 per cent of total projects have been completed, Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry informed Lok Sabha.
Thirteen cities have completed all of their projects undertaken under the mission, while 48 cities have completed more than 90 per cent of projects and another 23 cities have completed more than 75 per cent of projects. Remaining 714 projects amounting to Rs 17,303 crore are currently in the implementation stage.
Under the mission, the central government has a total outlay of Rs 48,000 crore for 100 cities. The Centre has released Rs 47,225 crore to states and union territories. Out of this, Rs 44,626 crore or 94 per cent of the total central share released, have been utilized. The mission, which was proposed to end by June 2024, has been extended to March 31, 2025.
The largest beneficiaries of the mission are Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
Under SCM, over 84,000 CCTV surveillance cameras have been installed, 1,740 kms of smart roads constructed or improved and 713 kms of cycle tracks have been developed. More than 9,433 smart classrooms have been developed across 2,398 government schools and 172 e-health centres and clinics have been developed. More than 49,000 dwelling units were constructed, and 1,562 rooms were built in community housing projects like Rain Basera, hostels and night shelters. Around 23 incubation centres or skill development centres have been developed and over 55 market redevelopment projects have been completed.
