Tamil Nadu: CM Stalin Reviews Progress of Key Welfare and Agri Projects

Chennai: Urging the qualitative and proper implementation of farmers’ welfare programmes and ensuring the continuous growth of agricultural production, Chief Minister M K Stalin wanted the expedition of the various schemes that were announced by him or during the demand for grants for the departments of Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare, Tamil Development and Information, Dairy and Fisheries ad Fishermen Welfare in the past three years.

Reviewing the progress of the work relating to the various projects undertaken by those departments at a meeting of top officials at the Secretariat on Friday, Stalin told the officials to complete the various work quickly and among them were the translation of globally acclaimed Tamil literary works in a wide range of world languages.

The Rs 3 crore work hall to be constructed at Mayiladuthurai in memory of the first novelist in Tamil language, Mayavaram Munsiff Vethanayagam, the memorial for Immanuel Sekaran with a statue a Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district, a centenary memorial for Ilayapurumal and the ongoing renovation of the Valluvar Kottam in Chennai at a cost of Rs 80 crore were among the projects whose projects the Chief Minister reviewed.

Among the projects of the Agriculture department that came to the Chief Minister’s attention were the Nagore Neythal Traditional Park, the upgrading of the Turmeric Export Centre at a cost of Rs 10 crore in Erode district, Mango significance centre in Dharmapuri district, gooseberry significance centre in Tirunelveli district, the Rs 15 crore plantain research centre at the Killikulam Agricultural College in Thoothukudi district and the various development activities carried out under the Tamil Nadu Millet movement at a cost of Rs 65.30 crore.

The various schemes undertaken under the animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries and fishermen welfare in association with the Chennai Port Trust at Kasimedu fishing harbor in Chennai and a slew of fishing villages in the Cuddalore district, including a new fishing landing centre and the setting up of fish markets at places like Chennai, Chengalpattu, Krishnagiri, Dindigul and Madurai were also reviewed at the meeting.

A plethora of development activities initiated at the Ambattur Milk Processing Unit at a cost of Rs 50 crore for the benefit of milk producers were also reviewed by the Chief Minister.
