Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has announced a stringent 29-day suspension for bus drivers caught using mobile phones while on duty. This directive, issued on Monday, aims to ensure passenger safety and strict compliance with transport regulations.

According to local media reports, all zonal-level officials have been instructed to enforce the rule rigorously. The decision to impose harsher penalties comes in the wake of widespread public criticism after several videos surfaced online showing drivers using mobile phones while driving.

In a recent incident, a viral video captured a driver talking on his mobile phone with one hand while steering the bus with the other, endangering passenger safety. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred on the Tambaram-Tindivanam route. The driver was found guilty of negligence.

Following the inquiry, the TNSTC issued an order terminating the driver's service. The corporation emphasized that such violations will be met with zero tolerance to prioritize passenger safety and maintain public trust.
