Telangana Congress Govt Sets Record in Grain Procurement
Deposits Over Rs 10355 Cr to Farmers
Hyderabad: The Congress government has created a new record in purchasing grain from farmers and paying them within three days. According to officials, Rs.10355.18 crores have been deposited to 8,35,109 farmers so far this season.
Following strict directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government purchased wet grain at the procurement centres. The civil supplies department had taken adequate precautions to ensure that farmers were not put to a loss due to the strong wind and untimely rain.
The districts of Jagital, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Sircilla, Suryapet, Yadadri-Bhongir, San-gareddy, Nirmal, Mancherial, and Jangoan were at the forefront in the procurement of grain.
The officials said that this year, the government had increased the number of centres where paddy is purchased. Earlier, the centres used to open in April. This year, the government started buying paddy almost two weeks earlier, from March 25. At least 7,178 grain purchase centers have been opened this time for the Rabi season. Purchases were made at 6,345 centres.
“Till June 7, 47.07 lakh metric tonnes of grain has been procured across the state. The civil supplies department is estimating that the process of grain procurement has been completed in many places and it will take another ten days for grain to reach the procurement centres,” an official said.
All the districts have been instructed to keep the centers open till the end of this month so as not to cause any trouble to the farmers who planted their crops late," the official said.
The civil supplies department had initially estimated that the procurement would be around 75.4 lakh metric tonnes this year. But due to higher prices than the support price in the market and private traders competing and buying at a better price, the estimate of grain coming to the centres has decreased.
