Hyderabad: In a private complaint against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over his remarks on the BJP during the recent Lok Sabha election campaign, Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court directed the special court for excise cases at Hyderabad to conduct proceedings and decide the complaint as expeditiously as possible in accordance with the law.
The judge was adjudicating a criminal petition filed by BJP Telangana general secretary Kasam Venkateshwarulu, seeking a direction to the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate for excise cases at Hyderabad to inquire into the complaint.
The complaint was that Revanth Reddy, at a meeting on May 4, at Kothagudem said that the BJP, if voted to power, would amend the Constitution and remove reservations to the SC, ST and BC communities.
The petitioner disputed the comment, and said the BJP leaders had never said so. He also complained that Revanth Reddy had called BJP leaders Bandi Sanjay and D. Arvind ‘Gundu’ and ‘Aragundu’. He approached the High Court Complaining that the magistrate had adjourned the matter for three months.
Justice Lakshman observed that the magistrate has to either take cognisance, issue notice or refer the complaint to the police to investigate. The High Court asked the magistrate to take a decision based on the material placed before the trial court, and disposed of the criminal petition.
