Hyderabad: The division bench of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday disposed of the appeals filed by several engineering colleges challenging the state government order deferring the start of off-campus centres by colleges.

The bench issued directions to the state government to re-examine the issue keeping in mind the provisions and mandate of section 20 of the Telangana Education Act, and pass orders in accordance with law within a period of seven working days from August 14.

As the state government was not inclined to give permission to start off- campus centres, it rejected applications of colleges, which were seeking to establish such off-campus centres. The said order was challenged by the colleges before the single judge vide writ petitions which were dismissed on observing that the government’s decision to defer was based on an expert committee’s meeting that suggested postponement in view of the commencement of the academic year.

Challenging the same, the writ appeal was filed by several colleges. Hearing them, the division bench passed orders stating that the policy decision of the state government was required to be set aside as the same was not in consonance with the law.
