Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday asked Sri Devasena, school education commissioner, how the government could go ahead with the promotion of the teachers, when disputes over the matter were pending before the High Court, particularly with regard to candidates who did not qualify in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).

Sri Devasena was present before the court during the hearing of the petitions which challenged the promotion being given to teachers.

A division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Lakshminarayana Alishetty asked the government pleader to suggest to the government to withdraw the process.

The division bench, which was dealing with a batch of appeals against a single judge bench orders, remanded the batch to the single judge. Now, the High Court single judge will decide the disputes raised by the various batches of candidates.

Earlier, the single judge had directed the government to consider Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) candidates, even those who did not qualify in TET, for promotion. Challenging the orders, some candidates filed an appeal before the division bench.

In a different petition, another single judge bench had issued an order to issue promotions as per National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) notification. As contrary orders were being issued by the two single judge benches, the division bench remanded them to a single judge to decide the issue.
