3 more held in illegal sale of PDS rice in old city

Hyderabad: Continuing their crackdown on the illegal transport of PDS rice, the city police here on Tuesday arrested three more persons for selling rice meant for public distribution.

The arrested have been identified as Mir Mehraj Ali Hashmi, 36, of Gulshan Nagar in Misrigunj, and Syed Hamed, 39, and Syed Shaki Hashmi, 34, both residents of Hasan Nagar. While Ali and Shaik Hashmi were ration shop workers, Hameed was a businessman, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, YVS Sudeendra.

Twenty-eight quintals of PDS rice and a truck, all worth over Rs.72,774 were seized from the possession of the arrested persons.

The trio was arrested by the South Zone Task team along with Civil Supplies department officials after conducting a raid at a ration shop at Hassan Nagar in Bahadurpura. The three accused colluded with a ration shop dealer and procured PDS Rice illegally and sold it to the main transporter to earn easy money illegally.

Two more persons - Syed Ataur Rahman and Mateen, both residents of Shatripuram, are absconding in the case. A few days ago, the police arrested three persons in the old city on similar charges.
