Hyderabad: Heavy downpour coupled with thunderstorm and lightning that lashed the State on Sunday claimed the lives of at least seven people in separate incidents.

Four people lost their lives when lightning struck while standing in a shed at a poultry farm at Tadoor village in Nagarkurnool district in the afternoon, while one more person identified as Laxman died in a similar incident at Telakapally mandal in the district.

At Shamirpet, two persons died after an uprooted tree fell on them at Shamirpet. The duo was going on a motorcycle when the incident occurred. In its bulletin, the State Disaster Management Department (SDMA) said thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds at 30-40 kmph was very likely to occur at isolated places over Jogulamba Gadwal, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy in next 24 hours.

Elsewhere in the city, several trees were uprooted due to gusty winds. Luckily, no traffic problems were reported in the city and its suburbs as most people remained indoors due to a holiday on Sunday.

Uppal, Nagole, LB Nagar and Shamirpet among other areas witnessed heavy rainfall.
