80 Villagers Booked for Blocking Officials in Nirmal Protest
Adilabad:The police in Nirmal district have reportedly registered cases against nearly 80 villagers, including 15 women from Gundampalli and Dilawarpur, for obstructing government servants during their protest on November 25 and 26. The villagers staged a rasta roko on NH-61 and detained Nirmal RDO Rathna Kalyani, opposing the establishment of an ethanol factory.
Sources indicate that the cases were filed after the villagers ended their agitation. During the protest on November 26, the irate villagers detained the RDO for several hours when she arrived for negotiations. Although the police have not officially confirmed the cases, it is believed they acted on a complaint filed by the RDO’s driver, invoking multiple sections of the law.
The agitation was called off following discussions with district collector Abhilasha Abhinav. Reports suggest that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed the collector to cancel the permissions granted for the ethanol factory, leading to the resolution of the conflict.
