ACB Officials Pose as Drivers, Catch Errant Staff at RTA Check Post

Kothagudem, Nalgonda: Undercover ACB officials checked a Road Transport Authority checkpost on the border at Aswaraopet and found that the staff were collecting bribes from owners of heavy goods carriers.

The ACB officials were dressed as drivers and the checkpost staff, as appeared to be their routine, demanded bribes from them. ACB found that the checkpost staff were collecting Rs 800 for 22-wheel vehicles, Rs 400 for 16-wheelers and Rs 200 for 12-wheel lorries.

The ACB officials took a written complaint from a vehicle driver who had paid a bribe and questioned two RTA officials.

In Nalgonda, a 12-member team of ACB officials raided the RTA office. ACB district deputy superintendent Jagadish said that six agents were working as middlemen at the office. About 60 applications related to driving licences and registration certificates and Rs 12,000 cash were found with 12 agents, he added.

Separtely, ACB officials conducted raids on transport department checkposts in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts on Tuesday at Salur in Bodhan, Salabathpur at Madnoor and Jangampally in Bhiknoor mandal. ACB officials seized Rs 13,500 unaccounted cash at the Salura integrated checkpost. Following the raids, private persons at the checkposts fled from the spot.
