Adilabad: Dengue cases are rising at an alarming rate in the erstwhile Adilabad district and the district administration came up with an Urban Dengue Action Plan (UDAP) to control the rising dengue cases in the Adilabad municipality. The incessant rains caused water contamination and water logging in the towns and villages and resulted in the spread of seasonal diseases across the district.

Dengue-positive cases are on the rise in Adilabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts while Malaria cases are on the rise in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. As many as 63 dengue-positive are confirmed out of 3,150 Elisa tests conducted in the Mancherial district. The government officials said they would not consider RD kit positives as dengue positive and they consider Elisa tests only as official dengue positives. Malaria-positive cases are on the rise in Komaram Bheem Asifabad.

Dengue-positive cases are high in the urban areas including the municipality in the Mancherial district. As many as 10 dengue-positive cases were reported in August in Komaram Bheem Asifabad. As many as 63 dengue-positive cases including 20 dengue-positive cases in agency PHCs were reported in Adilabad district. The dengue-positive cases are many times more than the number of official figures.

It is said that poor sanitation is the main reason for the rise in dengue and malaria cases and this has become the cause of concern. Hundreds of people throng the government hospitals, RIMS, Adilabad and private hospitals for treatment of seasonal diseases including Dengue.

Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah has formed a committee with Municipal, DMHO, and MEPA and mandated the committee to implement the UDAP. Collectors said they would implement the UADP in the Adilabad municipality to control the dengue cases.

The staff of these departments should take up the dry day, anti-larva and spraying activity in the 49 wards in the Adilabad municipality. The district administration is planning to involve the sanitary workers and ANMs, multi-level health workers, Asha workers and mid-level health providers in the campaigns to be taken up to create awareness among the people about the preventive measures to avoid getting affected with seasonal diseases and prevent them from the spreading.
