Hyderabad: Telangana Tourism introduced adventure water sports at Hussainsagar lake (Lumbini Park) marking its debut in the state.

It was inaugurated by tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao, who enjoyed a jet ski ride alongside Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, here on Wednesday.

Krishna Rao said that the government was going all-out to tap the state's vast potential in tourism, including picturesque destinations, historical landmarks, temple tourism and adventure sports.

"Water sports have been gaining immense popularity. The government is committed to enhancing water-related recreational facilities. Efforts are underway to identify water bodies across the state, including in the backwaters of Somasila in the Krishna river basin and Nagarjunasagar. These will be transformed into world-class tourism destinations. These initiatives would not only boost the state's revenue but also create employment for local communities, he said.

The minister said that cleaning and purifying lakes remain a priority for the government. He criticised the BRS administration for failing to deliver promises to improve Hussain Sagar lake.

The newly introduced activities at the lake include jet skiing, kayaking, jet attack rides, and water rollers (zorbing), providing families with diverse options.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, environmentalist B.V. Subba Rao called for caution alongside the push for water sports. He said the safety and well-being of participants should remain a priority. The authorities have to involve the pollution control board (PCB) and ensure regular testing of the water quality in the lake. He also suggested LED screens at the lake and

prominent display of safety guidelines and instructions so that tourists are aware of potential risks and understand the dos and don’ts for safe participation in water sports.

Amaravati Boating Club CEO Tarun Kakani and other officials were present on the occasion.
