Hyderabad:About 10 armed dacoits struck at a jeweller’s house in Arvind Colony, Domalguda, threatened the inmates with guns and daggers and fled 2.5 kilograms of gold and other property early on Thursday.

Police said the gang attacked Ranjith, a resident, with daggers when he tried to resist them and fled with the booty. Ranjith’s wife and two daughters and his brother Inderjit were at home at that time. Ranjith was taken to a hospital for treatment.

One of the assailants threatened Ranjith’s wife at gunpoint and asked her to open the electronic locker that was placed behind the television and looted the gold, police said.

“We opened the door after someone was repeatedly ringing the doorbell. One of them pointed a gun at my husband’s head while others entered the house. One of them latched the door from the inside,” Ranjith’s wife said. The gang took away CCTV recorders when they fled.

Ranjith’s family suspected there was the involvement of an insider as the gang knew its way around the house. A former employee who worked in the goldsmith workshop on the ground floor of the house was earlier is involved in another dacoity, a police officer said.

The central zone police formed five teams to nab the dacoits based on a complaint. Police have reportedly taken over eight suspects into custody for questioning
