The police booked a case under relevant sections of BNS and took up investigation
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police registered a case against Forest department Superintendent of Police Suthan for sexually harassing his neighbor Nitika Singh, who is a Director of INDOT, near her house at IAS and IPS quarters in Banjara Hills here.
In her complaint, Nitika Singh said she returned home around 6.40 pm on April 13 after completing her duty. “I heard some commotion from the opposite house and a few minutes later Suthan came out hitting the door and bashing loudly. Then again, he came out and said, “Babhi come let's smoke a cigarette" in a vulgar tone and kept repeating it,” she said in the complaint
“When I asked my staff Giribabu about Suthan’s behavior, the staff said the Suthan was constantly shouting, bashing the door, coming in and out of the balcony since 4 pm. Giribabu said that Suthan was constantly imitating in Hindi and calling her dog by taking some staff in boxes,” the complainant said.
He angrily threw a pot which is kept in the common space. “When Suthan referred me, I took my phone to make his video. I saw him running down the stairs from the balcony, he looked at me and made sexual remarks and repeated it,” the complainant said.
“I managed to capture the video, which was submitted along with the complaint. He made a nuisance, making weird gestures looking at me, showing me middle finger,” Nitika Singh said. When she alerted the police, a patrolling team came to her residence and enquired about him and took him to the police station.
“I feel scared and threatened. I live alone as my husband works in Vijayawada,” she said, stating that this was not the first time she was facing such a situation.
Based on her complaint, the police booked a case under Section 75 (Punishment for sexual harassment), Section 79 (criminalizes any word, gesture, act, or exhibition intended to insult the modesty of a woman or intrude upon her privacy) along with other provisions of BNS and took up investigation.
