BC Survey a Political Ploy: BJP Leader Laxman
HYDERABAD: BJP OBC Morcha president Dr K. Laxman charged that the Congress government was conducting the socio-economic caste survey to misguide the Backward Classes and said the Congress leaders, from Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, followed the same kind of tactics to cheat BC, SC and ST communities.
Addressing the reporters at the State BJP Office in Nampally, Dr Laxman said Nehru’s opposition to the Kaka Kalelkar Commission was the reason for the backwardness of BC, SC and ST communities. “Nehru opposed caste-based reservation and wrote to all chief ministers in this regard in 1961. Indira Gandhi never constituted the BC Commission. Rajiv Gandhi opposed Mandal Commission recommendations. Rahul Gandhi announced that they would remove reservations in his recent US visit,” Dr Laxman claimed.
Dr Laxman pointed out that Dr B.R. Ambedkar had opposed the Congress on several occasions which was why the Congress defeated him twice when he contested Lok Sabha polls. “The Congress did not allow another Dalit leader, Sitaram Kesri, to complete a full term as party president. Congress leader Chidambaram had conducted a nationwide survey of backward classes, but the shocking details about their backwardness forced him not to publish it. The Congress is conducting the caste survey to fool the backward classes, but not interested in the outcome of the survey to take up measures for their upliftment,” Dr Laxman explained.
The Congress had promised 42 per cent reservation for backward classes in local body polls. But even after one year of coming to power, the Congress government is not moving ahead. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inducted 27 members from BCs in his cabinet, he said.
