TGCSB Cautions Citizens Against Sankranti Season
Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has issued a warning to citizens to stay vigilant during Sankranti season as cybercriminals may attempt to deceive victims in the thick of the holiday rush.
TGCSB director Shikha Goel, in the press release, stated that cybercriminals are using fake shopping offers and discount deals on fraudulent websites to target victims. They also employ gift card scams, fake wallets, counterfeit apps, and QR codes for payments, often spread through social media and WhatsApp.
Shikha Goel advised public to avoid trusting unfamiliar links or huge discounts and to only book festival-related services such as travel tickets, gifts, and shopping through trusted, official platforms.
Additionally, she cautioned against forwarding downloaded images or videos, especially those featuring deities or festival celebrations, as these could contain viruses designed to steal personal data.
In case of falling victim to a cybercrime, citizens are encouraged to call 1930 or report the incident at cybercrime.gov.in for swift action.
