BJP nominates BC leader Krishnaiah to Rajya Sabha
Hyderabad: The BJP has nominated popular BC leader in two Telugu States and senior politician, R Krishnaiah, to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
It released a list of three candidates to be nominated to Rajya Sabha on Monday. The two other names are Rekha Sarma from Haryana and Sujeet Kumar from Odisha.
The BJP’s decision to name Krishnaiah, who is also Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Association national president, to Rajya Sabha from AP was a strategic move to garner the support of BCs in two Telugu States.
A few months ago, Krishnaiah quit YSRCP along with the membership of Rajya Sabha to join the BJP. The saffron party nominated Krishnaiah to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh as part of seat-sharing agreement with its allies – TDP and Jana Sena.
In 2022, YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy nominated Krishnaiah to Rajya Sabha from the party. The BC leader won as an MLA from LB Nagar Assembly constituency in 2014 on TDP ticket.
