Hyderabad: The first Telangana Thalli statue was unveiled in 2007, crafted by the esteemed artist B.S. Ramulu, portraying her as a maternal figure for the marginalised and downtrodden, said Congress leader Vijayashanthi in a post on X. This was during the era of the Telangana Thalli Party. At that time, the TRS (now BRS) did not have its own design for the Telangana Thalli statue.
Subsequently, the TRS (BRS) introduced their version of the Telangana Thalli statue at their party offices. However, even after a decade in power, they failed to grant the Telangana Thalli statue any official status, honour, or government-mandated guidelines, unlike the current Congress government led by @revanth_anumula, she said.
If a political party like the BRS contests changes to the Telangana Thalli statue's design, one might question their authority to do so, she argued.
Even activists from the earlier Telangana movement could claim that the BRS altered the original design of the Telangana Thalli statue. Our traditions like Bonalu and Bathukamma have been celebrated for generations and will endure. The involvement of political parties is not essential for the continuation of these cultural practices. The people will always protect and preserve these traditions as a matter of custom, the actor-turned-politician said.
