Hyderabad: The BRS on Saturday walked out the Assembly accusing minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy of hurting religious beliefs of its MLA and former minister Vemula Prashant Reddy.

Trouble erupted during a discussion on road construction. Prashanth Reddy said the BRS government had spent around Rs 22,000 crore and laid 8,672 km of double-lane roads and 669 km of four-lane roads. He said the Congress government in the last 15 months had managed to build only 55 km against its own target 769 km.

BRS asked for details of the hybrid annuity model (HAM) under which the government plans to construct roads. Venkat Reddy said all questions can be discussed in detail during the discussion on demands for grants for the roads and buildings department. He also said the BRS government could not complete the Uppal flyover in 10 years, and other than repairing some pot holes, did not do much for roads . He then said, “Prashath Reddy was busy performing pujas and yagas and constructing the Secretariat, besides being occupied at Pragathi Bhavan.”

Prashant Reddy responded saying he did perform pujas and yagas “as I am spiritual and believe in God. What’s wrong with it? Instead of answering my questions on the HAM model, the minister is questioning my beliefs.” Immediately thereafter, the BRS members walked out of the House in protest.

Venkat Reddy said he had “made a casual comment” and his comment was not aimed at Prashant Reddy’s beliefs or religious practices.
