CBI conducts searches at two places in Hyderabad, Books case against two GST officials

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a GST Superintendent and an Inspector working at the Principal Commissionerate of Central Tax at GST Hyderabad Commissionerate at GST Bhavan in Basheerbagh here.

The case was booked against the two GST officials - V. D. Anand Kumar, Superintendent and Inspector Manish Sharma, both working at the office of Principal Commissionerate of Central Tax, GST Hyderabad Commissionerate, according to CBI spokesperson.

It has been alleged in the complaint that both the persons harassed and extracted Rs. 5 lakh from a complainant. It was alleged that the duo threatened to impose Goods and Services Tax on the complainant for certain alleged irregularity. Further, the complainant alleged that the two GST officers seized the iron scrap shop of the complainant's private company and allegedly demanded and accepted Rs.5 lakh as illegal gratification on August 4, 2023, the CBI spokesperson said.

It was also alleged that the officers further demanded Rs. 3 lakh to open the seized premises. The CBI conducted searches at two places in Hyderabad leading to recovery of incriminating documents.
