Chillapalli Wins National Honour for Women-Friendly Panchayat

 Karimnagar: Chillapalli of Manthani mandal in Peddapalli district of the state won national honours under the Mahila Mitra category in the national panchayat awards for 2022-23, announced by the Centre.

The village will receive a Rs 75-lakh cash prize from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony on December 11 under the Union panchayati raj ministry.

The ministry has announced Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar for 27 villages across the country. In the women friendly panchayat category, Chillapalli stood second.

Sarpanch Kommu Padma told Deccan Chronicle that women self-help groups along with elected public representatives are active and they encouraged and coordinated with each other in every development activity that was taken up in the village.

By participating in every meeting conducted by the government, women leaders not only followed the suggestions given by officials but took collective decisions in implementation of various schemes.

By forming 34 SHGs in the village, they saved their earnings. They started from Rs 15,000 and reached Rs 20 lakh with each SHG.

They utilised the amount by taking loans to start various businesses like running purchasing centres, general stores, tailoring shops, beauty parlours, photocopy centres, chicken centres and medical shops.
