Civil supplies hamalis union calls off strike
The Telangana Civil Supplies Hamalis Union called off its seven-day-old strike after reaching an agreement on its demands following talks with civil supplies minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Uttam Kumar Reddy met CPI national executive committee member Chada Venkat Reddy and reached an agreement to implement increased labour rates, in the presence of Aituc state general secretary S. Balaraju and CITU state treasurer Vanguru Ramulu.
It may be recalled that an agreement was reached on October 4 to increase labour charges and provide uniforms to the sweepers and hamalis. The minister appealed to the workers and promised to give a bonus of `7,500 and `900 for Dasara festival as agreed. The workers unions thanked those who participated in the seven day strike.
