Hyderabad:In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old Class XI student choked to death when the puri he was eating during the lunch break got stuck in his windpipe leading to breathlessness here on Monday.

Gowtham Jain, father of the victim Viren Jain, received a call from the management of Akshara Vagdevi International School, Secunderabad, at 12.45 pm. They said that around 12.20 pm Viren had tried to gulp three puris at a time, and they had choked his windpipe.

Even before Gautam Jain could reach, the school management rushed Viren to a nursing home in Marredpally, police said.

The duty doctor, after examining Viren, advised that he be shifted to a bigger hospital in Secunderabad immediately. He was rushed in an ambulance but the duty doctors at the hospital declared him dead, police said.

Gautam in a complaint with Marredpally police said that there was nothing suspicious about his son’s death and the school management and doctors did their best to save him, police sources disclosed.

Gautam Jain is a businessman residing at an apartment in Old Bhoiguda. He has a seven-year-old daughter Nirvi.

Marredpally police registered a case and shifted the victim’s body to Gandhi hospital mortuary. After the postmortem, they handed the body to the grieving family members.
