Telangana: CM Revanth Reddy Moots Family Digital Cards

Hyderabad: The state government is preparing to launch a new initiative to streamline access to welfare schemes by introducing a comprehensive ‘Family Digital Card’ for every household. This single card will provide families access to ration, health services, and other welfare programmes extended by the state government under one platform.

The proposal was reviewed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during a meeting with officials from the health and civil services departments at his residence here on Monday.

The Chief Minister pointed out that states like Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka have implemented similar digital cards that store complete details of families. He instructed officials to study the policies adopted by these states, assess their benefits and challenges, and prepare a detailed report on how Telangana could adopt a similar system.

To test the system, Reddy has proposed a pilot project in which one urban and one rural area will be selected in each Assembly constituency across Telangana. The family digital card will be launched in these pilot locations to evaluate its efficiency before a statewide rollout.

“The family digital card should allow beneficiaries to access ration and health services seamlessly, regardless of their location. Additionally, it should incorporate the health profile of each family member to ensure better medical services in the future,” the Chief Minister said.

Reddy suggested that these digital cards must be flexible, allowing families to update their details—such as adding or removing names of members—on a regular basis. He called for establishment of district-level systems to monitor the performance and effectiveness of the digital card programme. The aim is to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries can access welfare schemes without any hurdles.

The meeting discussed the potential for using the family digital card to streamline and simplify the distribution of government-sponsored benefits, with a focus on transparency and accessibility.

The comprehensive family digital card project is expected to significantly enhance the delivery of services in Telangana, providing citizens with easy access to essential welfare schemes and health services under a unified system.

Civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, along with Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, CC's special secretary Ajith Reddy, and other senior officials, participated in the review meeting.
