Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading misinformation regarding the Congress-led government’s performance in Telangana.
Speaking at a joint press conference along with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Mumbai on Saturday, Revanth Reddy defended his government's work and called upon Maharashtra voters to reject the BJP-led alliance in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In a strong rebuttal to Modi's statements, Reddy highlighted Congress's rapid rollout of its Six Guarantees in Telangana, stating that the government began implementing its promises within 48 hours of taking office.
He accused Maharashtra BJP leaders and Modi of ‘spreading canards’ and ‘telling lies’ about Telangana's new Congress government and reiterated his commitment to truthfully informing the public about his government’s actions.
Reddy asserted that his government has delivered on the promises that were central to its Assembly election campaign, and outlined several achievements in line with the Six Guarantees.
He said that his government waived farm loans totalling ₹17,869 crore, which provided debt relief to over 22 lakh farmers in a span of 25 days between July and August. This achievement, according to Reddy, underscored the Congress’ dedication to farmer welfare in stark contrast to the BJP government at the Centre, which, he claimed, harassed farmers with its controversial farm laws.
The Telangana government filled 50,000 vacancies in just 10 months as part of its employment push, he said.
The Mahalakshmi scheme, providing cooking gas at ₹500, has benefited 50 lakh households, he said, while the free bus travel had been patronised by 1.04 crore women so far. The government has spent ₹3,541 crore on the free bus scheme so far, he said.
Noting that the government continued to work towards extending economic relief to households, Revanth Reddy said the Congress government provided up to 200 units of free electricity per house, benefiting over 40 lakh households. It provided a ₹500 bonus per quintal for paddy.
The Chief Minister emphasised Telangana's progressive steps towards social justice through a caste census being held across the state from November 6. He said that the Cabinet has passed a resolution urging the Union government to incorporate caste data in the National Census 2025.
Reddy appealed to voters of Maharashtra to reject the BJP-led alliance in the upcoming Assembly polls, which he claims has ‘deceived’ people of the state. He alleged that Modi relocated 17 major projects originally intended for Maharashtra to his home state of Gujarat, a move, he claims, has undermined Maharashtra’s economy and development.
“Maharashtra is the birthplace of iconic leaders like Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Savitribai Phule and Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The state should not fall into the hands of a party that has shifted vital projects away from it," he said, appealing to voters to uphold the state's legacy.
Revanth Reddy alleged that Modi has prioritised corporate interests over the welfare of ordinary citizens. He accused the BJP government of bringing ‘black farm laws’ to benefit large corporations, and specifically named Adani and Ambani as beneficiaries of BJP policies.
Reddy urged Maharashtra’s electorate to send a strong message against the BJP’s alleged neglect of their development.
Later, Revanth Reddy held road shows in Mumbai in support of Congress and alliance partners and appealed to voters to give a thumping majority to the MVA alliance to put Maharashtra on the growth trajectory.
