Revanth to Lay Foundation for New OGH
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will be laying the foundation stone for the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) building on a 32-acre site in Goshamahal by the month-end. He directed officials to ensure state-of-the-art facilities were provided at the facility by assessing the medical requirements for the next 50 years.
At a review meeting with top officials here on Saturday, the Chief Minister inquired about land availability for the new OGH structure at Goshamahal, and called for an early transfer of the site from the current jurisdiction of the police department to the health department.
Officials of the two departments were asked to complete the process pertaining to the transfer of land and related works immediately.
The officials briefed the Chief Minister about the design of the new building. Reddy suggested several changes and asked them to incorporate them and draft a new design
The officials were instructed to finalise the designs keeping in mind the future needs, mainly academic blocks, hostels for nursing staff, good parking facility and other modern infrastructure within the hospital premises.
Reddy suggested road connectivity from across four directions so that people coming from different areas could reach the hospital easily. He wanted a corporate healthcare touch wherein all medical departments and services are available in the hospital premises. The open space should have parks and green cover apart from concrete buildings and multi-storied structures inside the complex.
He said the designs should be so prepared whereupon there will be no problems when road expansion and construction of flyovers are taken up on a later day. He urged the officials to take steps for laying the foundation stone by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to promote the old building of OGH at Afzalgunj as a heritage structure. As part of the Musi Riverfront Development project, the historic old buildings will be transformed into a tourist destination.
