Hyderabad: The Congress has put up an impressive show by winning eight of the 17 seats in Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. This is significantly higher than the three seats it won in 2019. That apart, the party also wrested the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly seat from BRS in the by-election.

Congress Nalgonda candidate Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy created a record by securing the highest majority of over 5.5 lakh votes. His colleague from Khammam, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, won by over 4.5 lakh votes.

Incidentally, all eight wins were with a majority that was between one to five lakh votes. It also retained the lead in the Assembly segments in these constituencies that it had won in the state polls last year. The Congress lost Mahbubnagar to the BJP by a slender margin of about 4,500 votes out of the over 12.2 lakh votes polled.

Incidentally, the Congress also secured a higher vote share when compared to BJP and BRS. The former secured 35.01 per cent vote share, while it was 16.70 per cent for the BRS.
