Nizamabad: The Nizamabad Police Commissionerate is stepping up efforts to address nearly 3,600 long-pending investigation cases, some dating back several years. In-charge commissioner Ch. Sindhu Sharma directed officers to expedite the resolution of these cases, which include serious crimes such as murder, bodily offenses, extortion, and smuggling of ganja and prohibited chemicals.
Criminals have reportedly exploited the delay to continue their activities unchecked, particularly in Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armoor, and surrounding rural areas. Victims are concerned about the influence of habitual offenders, while lapses in coordination, frequent transfers, corruption allegations, and political pressure are cited as reasons for the backlog.
Since assuming charge, Sindhu Sharma, who is also Kamareddy district SP, has been reviewing the status of pending cases during monthly crime meetings. So far, approximately 700 cases have been resolved in two months under her leadership. However, many police stations in the district still face significant backlogs.
Efforts to clear cases are uneven, with some officers taking proactive steps while others are accused of negligence. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior officer noted that the renewed focus on pending cases has yielded positive results. "We are hopeful of closing all pending cases soon," the officer said.
Sindhu Sharma emphasised the importance of resolving cases within a stipulated time frame, adding that delays undermine justice and embolden criminals. The Commissionerate is committed to reducing the backlog and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
