Hyderabad: The All India Kishan Sabha (AIKS) will hold a dharna on September 25 in New Delhi seeking compensation for crops damaged by wild animals in the forests. The posters for the dharna were released at Sundarayya Park here on Thursday.
In a release, AIKS state general secretary T. Sagar said, “The problem exists across the country. Tigers, elephants, monkeys, wild pigs and peacocks are damaging crops leading to severe losses to farmers, who cultivate lands abutting forests. Since 2018, around 300 farmers have been killed. Their kin did not receive any compensation from the Centre.”
Attacks on crops by monkeys, wild pigs and peacocks have forced farmers to change their choice of crop, he added.
