Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming Sankranti festival, the Cyberabad police issued an advisory for the public who are going to their hometowns to celebrate the festival.

The police asked the residents to give prior information at the local police station about the departure and arrival plans if they need to lock their house. Install locks with a central locking system for added security apart from arranging a security alarm system with motion sensors for the house.

“Report any suspicious individuals’ movements immediately to the local police station or call 100. Keep your two-wheelers inside your compound, ensure they are locked, and if possible, secure them with wheel chains,” the police said, asking residents to hire trusted watchmen or security guards for your property.

“Install CCTV cameras at the entry and exit points of your home and monitor them online. Ensure the DVR is stored in a secure location and avoid leaving garbage, milk packets, or newspapers outside your house, as this may indicate your absence to criminals,”

The police asked residents to cover locked doors with curtains to prevent them from being visible to strangers and keep some lights on inside and outside the home to create the impression of occupancy. The residents must inform trusted neighbors about their absence and ask them to look after the home.

“Avoid leaving keys in easily accessible places such as shoe racks, under pillows, above cupboards, or in dressing table drawers. Do not disclose your travel plans to anyone except trusted individuals. Avoid sharing travel details on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook,” the police said.

The police said by following these guidelines, the residents can ensure the safety of the property during the festival vacation. “ If you suspect any person, dial 100 toll free number, Cyberabad Police Control Room 9490617100 and WhatsApp number 9490617444,” the police advised.
